ZOOM!

Over time our teeth tend to become discolored or stained. Whether this is from smoking, coffee, or any other foods, a beautiful smile could be closer than you think. We offer a safe, inexpensive solution to an unsightly smile. Whitening your teeth is a very simple procedure that can be completed in relatively short period of time.

Procedure

Our office utilizes the Zoom2 chairside whitening procedure as seen on the television show Extreme Makeover. The procedure for Zoom2 whitening is quick and painless. The first step is to isolate the teeth and protect the gums and lips. When this has been accomplished, the whitening gel is placed on the teeth. The gel is activated by a specially designed light that is directed at the teeth. The entire procedure takes just over an hour. The results are usually between 6 and 10 shades whiter.

What is Zoom tooth whitening?
Zoom is a bleaching process that whitens discoloration of teeth.

What are the causes of tooth discoloration?
There are many causes. The most common include aging and consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea, coke, tobacco, tomato sauce, etc. During tooth formation, consumption of tetracycline antibiotic or excessive usage of fluoride could also cause tooth discoloration.

How does Zoom Teeth Whitening work?
The Zoom Light-activated whitening gel's active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. As the Hydrogen Peroxide gel is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching colored substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged

Who may benefit from tooth whitening?
Almost anyone can benefit from whitening. However, treatment may not be as effective eually for everyone. We can determine if you are a viable candidate for this procedure through a shade assessment.

How safe Is teth whitening ?
Yes, extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth is safe. Dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure availble. As with any tooth whitening product, Zoom is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.

What does a patient experience during the Zoom procedure?

Many fall asleep. Individuals with a strong gag reflex or anxiety may have difficulty undergoing the entire procedure. Tooth sensitivity is possible during the procedure, as the bleaching penetrates and whitens.

How is exposure to the Zoom light controlled?
The Zoom procedure requires that all soft tissue in and around the mouth be protected. The clinician is required to monitor the procedure to insure any exposed skin or tissue is isolated and protected. Protective eyewear is required during the procedure. Light sensitive individuals including those undergoing PUVA (Psoralen+UV Radiation) therapy or other photo-chemotherapy, as well as patients with melanoma, should not undergo the Zoom in-office procedure. Also patients taking any light sensitive drugs or substances, whether over-the-counter, prescription or homeopathic, should consult their primary physician prior to procedure.

How long does Zoom Whitening take?

The complete procedure takes about an hour. The procedure begins with a preparation period followed by less than an hour of bleaching.

What are the side effects?

Sensitivity during the treatment may occur with some patients. The Zoom lights generates minimal heat which is the usual source for discomfort. On rare occasions, minor tingling sensations are experienced immediately after the procedure but always dissipate.

How long do the results last?
By following the Zoom Post Whitening Care Instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were prior to the procedure.

NOTE: Patients are advised to switch their toothpaste to SENSODYNE approximately ONE week prior to your ZOOM session in order to prepare your teeth for the procedure. Minor sensitivity is to be expected but if patients experience further sensitivity the dentist would dispense toothpaste/gel called PreviDent 5000® to alleviate the discomfort.

A note of reassurance...
Tooth whitening is a well-established procedure in medical cosmetics. Hydrogen Peroxide, the active agent in Zoom has also been safely used for many years in the treatment of gums and other oral soft tissue.

The whitening process is effective on most discolored teeth. Darker stains, such as those caused by antibiotics, are more difficult to whiten. The degree of whiteness will vary from patient to patient, depending on the structure of the teeth.
